Fr. Thomas J. Euteneuer - HLI President
Fr. Tom Euteneuer
Fr. Tom Euteneuer will be speaking on the subject Ireland Must Choose at 9.45am this coming Saturday the 8th of September in the RDS in Dublin.

Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer (pronounced Eye-ten-our) became president of Human Life International in December of 2000. Human Life International is the world's largest pro-life organization with affiliate offices and associates in eighty countries around the world. In six years of service to this unique mission Fr. Euteneuer has traveled more than 700,000 miles as a pro-life missionary and visited more than fifty countries.

Fr. Euteneuer was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1962, the third of six children born to Joseph and Marian Euteneuer. Fr. Euteneuer has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, as well as a licentiate degree in biblical theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy. He speaks Spanish and Italian, as well.

While in college, Fr. Euteneuer participated in the Marine Corps Officer Candidate Program, attended boot camp at Quantico, Virginia and graduated at the top of his Company. After discerning that the Lord was calling him to the priesthood rather than the military, he entered the seminary. After his ordination in 1988, Fr. Euteneuer served as a parish priest in five parishes of the Diocese of Palm Beach, Florida, secretary to the diocesan bishop, director of vocations, and spiritual moderator for the diocesan Respect Life Office.

His pro-life activity began in the early years of his priesthood with prayer vigils and pickets at abortion mills, and has included speaking at conferences, sidewalk counseling, and the establishment of a crisis pregnancy center.

In July of 2000, Fr. Euteneuer initiated a lawsuit against an abortion clinic in Florida to sue them for violation of his rights as a sidewalk counselor. Acts of intimidation, harassment, obstruction of his work and even two death threats gave him the credentials to take this conscientious step to keep the abortionists at bay while he and his co-workers tried to save babies.

Since taking office at HLI, Fr. Euteneuer has spoken to thousands of people all over the world spreading the Gospel of Life as well as making many appearances on EWTN and other local, national and international media. He has been awarded the John Cardinal O'Connor Award for Life from Legatus in 2005 and the "Soldier of the Church Militant" Award from the Brent Society in 2007.

Fr. Euteneuer has also served the pro-life movement by leading numerous pilgrimages to Mexico to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, for whom he has a deep devotion.

With regard to his new position, Fr. Euteneuer said

"While no one can fill the shoes of Founder Father Paul Marx, OSB, whose extraordinary vision built this great apostolate to defend life, faith and family around the world, I am profoundly humbled to follow in his footsteps".
